2010 Cynosport World Games Performance Grand Prix Finals

Course analysis, results, and photos. Article by Annie DeChance and Brenna Fender. Photos by Karen Moureaux.

Every year at the Cynosport Games, the quality of competition gets better. This year's field of Performance competitors was top notch, turning in fast and exciting runs similar to those seen in the Championship Finals. The course, judged by Carol Voelker, was both challenging and fun to watch.

The 8" class was made up of all Pembroke Welsh Corgis. They all turned impressively tight from #9 to #10, and most (but not all) of them wrapped around #9 to the right rather than the left. All of the little dogs turned in clean runs.

The 12" class did not have universally tight turns from #9 to #10. They also did not all run clean, with several missed dogwalk contacts to their credit. There was also one faceplant after the A-frame and a seesaw flyoff.

In the 16" class, there were many tight turns, but the #3-#4 turn was sometimes wide. Two dogs went off course from the #11 tire to the #14 jump. Two dogs had trouble in the #12-#13 area.

The 22" dogs had the most contact problems: three missed A-frames and two missed dogwalks. Other problems included a refusal at the A-frame and at #9 and #15, and knocked bars at #12 and #13. The #14 off-course after #11 beckoned one dog in this class, but he did not sucumb.

Overall, #12-#13 caused problems for handlers, with wide turns and accidental threadles between the two jumps. At least one dog also knocked bars is this area of the course. But the quality of the competition was quite high, and the Finals, which went off without a glitch, were very fun to watch.

Congratulations to the 2010 Cynosport World Games Performance Grand Prix Champions:
