An update on regional dates and sites.
The first regional championships of the season in North America will be the weekend of June 10 & 11 in Georgia hosted by Canine Capers and Oregon hosted by Columbia Agility Team. The next weekend will find the Northeast Regional in Pennsylvania hosted by Keystone June 16-18. This will be followed by a combined effort by Front Range Agility Team and FRAC the weekend of July 1-3 in Colorado and August 5-6 in Chicago hosted by On Course Agility. The remaining regional is presently being considered and will be confirmed in the near future.
With growing interest abroad, the Grand Prix tournament structure is being expanded to include a Type 2 regional championship event. These events will provide an opportunity for developing regions where there are limited qualifying opportunities to advance to the semifinals and name a regional champion. For example in Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda, there are only a few qualifying events each year and by their geography, there are fewer supporting entries at events overall in support of a regional championship. Each of these regions (or in concert with one another) will now be able to offer the Type 2 Regional Championship, which will operate on the same format as the (Tier 1) Regional Championships, except that no World Finalist slot is available to the winner; however, competitors in these regions can earn a bye into the semifinals at the world event and the winner will carry the distinction of being the Grand Prix Champion for their region. Since this is a new element in the tournament for the coming year, other details of these event offerings are still under review, with final details expected by the first of March.
