Tournament changes for 2012 season.
2012 will mark the 25th anniversary of USDAA's Grand Prix of Dog Agility tournament series. As part of this momentous occasion, we are retooling some aspects of the tournament series and Cynosport 2012 to encourage participation in this great milestone.
First, to enter Cynosport 2012, a competitor will only be required to qualify for participation in one (1) tournament. (In 2011, qualification in two (2) tournaments was required.) This affords everyone the opportunity to make it all the way to the finals in a tournament in which they have qualified.
The 2012 Cynosport Games will move from Louisville, Kentucky to a location to be named in the next few weeks. Even more notably, tournament series will incorporate as many as eleven (11) regional championships in North America, plus overseas regionals. This will give competitors more opportunities to qualify and to advance in the tournaments. Additionally, each regional championship will also include a local qualifying round prior to the Regional semifinals. USDAA will provide more support to these events, providing medals, ribbons and trophies for each of the tournaments, as well as commemorative pins. Awards ceremonies will be orchestrated following each tournament finals to provide more recognition to Regional Champions. We are also working hard to assure that all of these events are web cast. In concert with this change, after January 3, 2012, standard standard maroon qualifying ribbons or printed/electronic "Q" certificates will be awarded by the hosting clubs. (USDAA sponsored placement medallions, qualification ribbons and pins will no longer be provided for local qualifying events.)
Qualification standards remain the same in all tournaments except for Team and Versatility Pairs. In these tournaments, a minimum point value has been added to the previous qualification standard. The standard provides that a Team must earn at least 75% of the points earned by an average of the top three teams*, or 850 points, whichever is greater. In Performance Versatility Pairs, the same standard applies, except that the minimum requirement is 566.67 points. A complete copy of the Team and Versatility Pairs rules for 2012 are published in the Forms & Documents Library. Click HERE to review the tournament regulations.
*The regulations require 75% of the top team when entry numbers are small. See tournament regulations for complete details.
