Buckeye Region Agility Group honored their deceased founding board member at their August 27 and 28 trial.
After the untimely death of popular USDAA judge, competitor, and BRAG board member Dave Seeger, his club set up a memorial award in his honor, designed to be awarded to any dog earning a Agility Dog or Performance Dog title at the club's August trial. It's only fitting that the first ribbon awarded went to one of Seeger's own dogs. Mocha, his young mixed breed, went to the line with Seeger's good friend Pam Williams, who was fostering the dog until a new owner could be found.

Williams realized that Mocha was only a leg away from her AD, so she entered the dog at the BRAG trial in both gamblers (to get used to running together at a trial) and standard. The two hadn't had much time to train as a team, since Mocha just joined the Williams' household about a week after Seeger's death. "I didn't want any extra pressure of people knowing [that Mocha could finish her title on her first standard run] so I didn't tell anyone other than the BRAG Board and my mom," says Williams. "I knew she only needed the one standard leg for her AD so we ran carefully. No dropped bars, a restart on the weaves, all contacts accomplished and standard leg earned! What a relief! I figured we could just have fun and fly around like she likes on the second day," added Williams.
Williams enjoyed running Mocha and was happy to have been a part of this accomplishment. She says, "I was relieved that...I didn't blow it for Dave. I was also pleased that [Mocha] could go to her new home with that title and that it was completed under Dave's watch, so to speak. I was glad that we could just go for fun the next day, but mainly I was saddened that Dave wasn't there to do it himself."
Mocha will be going to her new owners next week in Buffalo, New York where she will continue to do agility.
