A profile of 2016 IFCS Team Member Marcy Mantell and her dog Stripe.
The World Agility Championship in The Netherlands is this week! Meet Team Member Marcy Mantell and her dog Stripe.
Marcy lives in Foster City, California, where she's a graphic designer. She's been competing in agility for almost 20 fun-filled years and will represent Team USA for the second time in the 16" jump height division with her five-year-old Shetland Sheepdog, Stripe.
Stripe is the 2015 16" Grand Prix Champion and the 2014 Silver Biathlon medalist at Cynosport. Last year at the IFCS WAC in Italy he won the Silver Team medal, and finished in first place in both Biathlon and Triathlon Jumping.
This year will be Stripe's fourth international event, but Marcy is no stranger to international competitions. This upcoming World Agility Championships will be her 15th international event! She and her other Sheltie, Wave, were World Champions in 2008.
Marcy's goal for this year's event is to apply all their training so they run to their fullest potential both mentally and technically.
Those who know Stripe would say he is "exceptionally sweet and easy going" and unique in many ways. But it is the white stripe down his left side that is his most unusual marking as a sable and white Sheltie. Marcy likes to refer to it as his "racing stripe." And when she was deciding what to name her new puppy, she says, "I don't know why I even tried, because he just named himself."
