The Cynosport World Disc Dog Championships will consist of five classes of competition, including Obstacle Course, Speed Disc, Distance Throw, Open Freestyle and Compulsory Freestyle. The series will be run over three days, Friday through Sunday. Separate champions will be crowned in each event with an overall Cynosport World Disc Dog Champion named overall. Events run from Friday through Sunday.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in each class, as well as for the overall champion.
In the distance
phase, teams have just three throws to complete the longest possible toss
and catch.
The
'last-throw-counts'
rules
creates a dramatic scenario with competitors trying to determine when to
stop.
In the speed disc phase, teams have three disc with three catches to be made in each of three zones - 10 yards, 20 yards and 30 yards. They have a fixed amount of time to complete the three throws.
The obstacle course is the most innovative ever introduced in flying
disc competition, and demonstrates the competitors disc control..
This pits teams against a six-station disc dog obstacle course where the
trainers must toss the disc through or around obstacles into a catch area to score points.
The freestyle
competition is the pinnacle of all disc dog events where teams showcase
all of their talent and tricks in a choreographed routine set to music. Routines
often feature various throws, vaults and timing maneuvers in nonstop
sequences. In the Open freestyle, the competitor has more latitude on their routine and may wear costumes to present a theme. In the Compulsory Freestyle, no costumes are allowed and scoring reflects the compulsory technical elements that must be incorporated in the event.
Rules for the Compulsory Freestyle are derived from the Ashley Whippet Invitational tournament series, and all other classes shall follow the rules set forth by the Flying Disc Dog Open. Representatives from each of the organizations will be co-managing the event. Teams from all over the world are expected to attend. Scores from all events
will be included to name the World Cynosport Flying Disc Champion.
Open match play will also be offered on the three-day weekend.
