Occasionally, local media are looking for stories and recently in Columbus, Ohio, a USDAA group had an opportunity to go out and promote our sport. By Lisa Baird.
On September 20, a number of dogs and their owners from Buckeye Region Agility Group (BRAG) were invited to participate in a local television news feature on WTTE Fox 28. It was a spot on Good Morning Columbus with local on air talent, Johnny DiLoretto.
The first segment, to be used as a teaser for the 7am show was filmed at 6:50am and then we did several live segments from 7am to 9am. The live segments concluded with the host actually running Elmo, a three-year-old Brittany owned by one of our members.
After the live show, we did some more taping with several dogs and members for a spot on the station's affiliate, WSYX6 noon news. We had a great time filming and the dogs did wonderfully! For a number of segments the camera person was actually seated on the floor very near where the dogs were working and most successfully ignored the distractions and did their job!
BRAG spokesperson Pam Williams was able to get a lot of information on dog agility out there, including a mention of the 2010 Cynosport Games.
