Learn more about this potential health hazard for your dog from the poison control experts at the ASPCA.
The ASPCA Poison Control Center reports that there is an increase in the presence of xylitol in common household products. Dogs that ingest xylitol can suffer from acute and possibly life-threatening liver disease and coagulopathy.
Some of the many products that can contain xylitol include toothpaste, chewing gum, nasal sprays, instant coffee, peanut butter and sunscreen, to name just a few. The ASPCA has a handy PDF you can download that lists all the products that require an ingredient check.
Remember to always keep the Poison Control Center number in case of emergency - 888-426-4435.
