IFCS 2016 Team Member Profile: Kate Moureaux

A profile of IFCS 2016 Team Member Kate Moureaux and her dog Smart.

We are featuring regular profiles of all of the IFCS 2016 Team Members. Today we feature Kate Moureaux and her dog Smart.

Kate Moureaux and Smart (Border Collie) live in Simi Valley, California. Kate is the owner of DrivenDogs Agility (www.drivendogs.com), and a full time agility instructor. She began competing in agility in 1992, at the age of six-years-old, and has been teaching since 1999.

Smart's mother (Driven) and grandmother (Quick) helped to give Kate plenty of International experience, having competing at three IFCS World Championships (2006, 2008, 2010). Since 2006, Kate has also won seven National Championships, Smart earning two herself. Smart is no stranger to International competitions, having competed in Europe in 2013 at the CCOE, and at the IFCS World Championships in 2014. As Smart's breeder, Kate is especially proud of Smart's accomplishments.

Besides agility, Kate and Smart have enjoyed competing in herding, obedience, rally, and conformation. Outside of dog sports, Smart is an expert cuddler, and loves her rubber chicken, Elvis.

Questionnaire:

Where do you live?

Simi Valley, CA.

How did you first get involved with agility?

Starting in 1992 (I was six-years-old) with my grandmother's Springer Spaniel, Alex.

Do you (or did you) participate in any other dog sports or training with your dogs?

Agility is my first love, but we also dabble in herding, obedience, rally, and conformation.

Tell us more about the dog(s) you will be competing with as an IFCS Team Member?

Smart is the 2015 USDAA Grand Prix and Steeplechase 18" Champion. She previously competed on the 2014 IFCS World Team. Smart is an awesome agility partner, as well as all around dog. She loves to compete, but is also happy to lay in bed and relax.

Does your dog have any quirks or unique habits that you would love to share?

Smart loves iPads and Phones ... due to a little too much video playback of her runs with the sound on!

Do you have other dogs/pets aside from your IFCS dog? Tell us more about them:

I currently have four other dogs:

  • Driven (13) Smart's mom, 2008/2010 IFCS World Team Member
  • Jammer (13) Driven's brother
  • Power (nine) Half sibling to Driven/Jammer
  • Great (22 months) Power's daughter

Planning to breed Smart later in 2016. Very excited to hopefully have a Smart baby!

How does it feel to be on the IFCS Team this year?

Super excited to be on the IFCS World Team. I feel very lucky to have had three generations of dogs on this team, and look forward to sharing another travel experience with Smart.
