From the tropics to the desert...
I got a chance to catch up with the team from Bermuda, this is their first time at the Cynosport World Games. The team has rented RVs and plan to stay another week following the Games. They are excited to be here amongst all of the activity.
Dog agility is catching on in Bermuda and some of the Bermuda agility veterans have been in the sport for three years. Team members Rose Dyer and Vincent Madeiros have traveled to the US for agility trials before, specifically the NEAT trial in the Northeast.
Currently, Bermuda trials see upwards of 30 dogs in competition, but the sport and USDAA is growing.
They have fielded two teams; the "Rum Runners" and the "Pickled Onions". Rose Dyer will be running in the Grand Prix and the other team members are entered in the Steeplechase.
The team has big expectations to have fun and along with agility, are looking forward to giving the "SplashDogs" [a reference to dock jumping sport] a try and letting the Whippets do the Lure Coursing.
The team consists of:
Cindy Madeiros - Team Manager
Jonathon Dyer - Team Coach
Rose Dyer running Lucy and Kelly, NS Duck Tollers
Vincent Madeiros running Zipper, Border Collie
Cathy Williams running Whispa and Whimsey, Whippets
Frank Williams running Fizz, Whippet
Tania Chadwick had been competing in USDAA for 10 years and is the President of The Bay Team, one of the largest agility clubs in the country.
