USA Takes the Gold!

Earning almost 1/3 of the medals awarded at the event, Team USA proves their mettle against a highly competitive field of nations.


Team USA latched onto first place in the first of three classes and never let up, as they captured the gold in the IFCS Team Triathlon at the 2004 IFCS World Agility Championships. Incurring an elimination in the early going, team members watched as team after team in the jumpers class meet the same fate, leaving them in first place by a mere 18/100ths of a second. The margin widened to 7 points in the standard round. The team finished in first, ahead of Russia (silver) and Canada (bronze).

Team USA had upped the ante on Saturday, increasing its medal take by 19 medals -- 9 gold, 6 Silver & 4 Bronze, and adding 2 1/2 times more medals than any other country. Canada took second place in medal counts, edging ahead of Japan by four, taking 10 total on the day. Following is a list of medal counts for Saturday, and cumulatively:

In the Steeplechase qualifier, Dana Pike & Maybie and Mike Murphy & Bailey advanced to the final round of the 12" class along with competitors from Japan, Canada & Spain. In the 16" class, Christine Frank with Kimie and Renee King with Hamlet advanced to the final round . In the 22" class, Rhonda Carter & Scout and Stacy PEardot-Goudy & Secret advanced to the final round, and in the 26" class, Marcus Topps with Juice and Julie Daniels with Spring advanced to the final round.

Sunday will see the All Around World Champion announcements in Individual Competition, while IFCS member countries field three dog teams in the Team Triathlon course. The Team continues to do well and shows no signs of letting up.

Team USA led in the medal count with a total of nine of the twenty-four awarded in Friday's events.

In addition, in non-championship class of Power & Speed (the event opener), placements were distributed as follows:

The Individual Biathlon Jumping class was held at the end of the day, with the Standard class to be held on Saturday. At the end of the Jumping class, Team USA held first and second and fifth in the 26" class, first, second and third in the 22" class, eighth, fifteenth and sixteenth in the 16" class, and second, eighth and eleventh in the 12" class. Saturday's standard biathlon class will be combined with these scores to obtain final outcome.
