First Performance Championships kick off the final program for the 2004 Tournament Season
Amidst a standing room only crowd, the Performance National Championships was introduced for the first time at the USDAA's annual Championship event. The field of finalists, advancing along the same path as competitors in the Grand Prix World Championships, included a notable list of veterans who still had the mettle for the long tournament season.
Running the same course, which would be run later in the afternoon by the Grand Prix World Championship class, Pritamo Kentala and her dog Surfer captured the championship cup for the 8" class in 37.42 seconds. In the 12" class, Kathryn Leggett of California won the championship with her Shetland Sheepdog Heather in 38.83 seconds. In the 16" class, Elicia Calhoun and her Australian Shepherd Suni ran in 33.50 for the win, and Sosie Sutherland of New Jersey ran in 41.40 seconds to win the 22" class with her Border Collie Rhyn.
The class was judged by Paul Stolzenburg of New Hampshire.
