Arthur (Artie) Weiss - 2005 - Pioneer of Dog Agility

Art WeissArtie Weiss was a legend in the agility community and named a Pioneer in Dog Agility. He founded the Long Island Agility Club in the late 1980s and is acknowledged as the reason agility is so strong in the Mid-Atlantic Region today. He built his own equipment and connected with USDAA Founder and President Ken Tatsch, who supplied him with videos and suggestions on how to increase participation in the sport. Long Island Agility held its first trial in 1990 and its first Regional Qualifier the following year. 

For the next 15 years, Artie dedicated his time to promoting dog agility throughout the eastern part of the U.S. Artie ran both Siberians and papillons during this time and was inducted into the USDAA Hall of Fame in 2005. He passed away on February 1, 2016.
