Kent Mahan - 2007 - Pioneer of Dog Agility & 2007 - Meritorious Service
Kent Mahan of Pueblo, Colorado, first got involved in agility by “stumbling” on to it at an obedience trial in 1989. Since then, Kent has dedicated a lot of time, especially in the early years, promoting agility in and around Colorado.
In 1992, Kent established the All Colorado Agility Team, being the first agility group, in the Rocky Mountain region. He built the first set of equipment and ran the first-ever trial in Colorado and lead the group since its’ founding.
Kent has an impressive list of accomplishments with multiple dogs including Bandit, an Australian shepherd that earned the first USDAA title in Colorado, and Rusty, another Aussie and 1996 Grand Prix® finalist that was the first Colorado dog to earn an Agility Dog Champion (ADCH) title, in 1998.
In 2007 Kent was recognized as a Pioneer of Dog Agility and he also received the USDAA Meritorious Service Award for his years of promoting the sport, particularly during the early days of dog agility.
