Course Design Guidelines

USDAA has published a booklet on Course Design Guidelines, setting forth design philosophies for each level of competition and guidelines for their implementation.

While these Guidelines set forth many course design elements with numerous options, it is important to remember these are just Guidelines. Any creative and safe design that meets the general philosophy for design at a given level is permissible.  USDAA tasks a set of senior judges with the responsibility of reviewing courses to ensure that judges are maintaining the philosophical integrity for each level of competition.

The Guidelines are soon to be replaced by version 3.0, which will take a different approach to presenting the elements. With so many events moving indoors over the past decade, course designs have been forced into small spaces, presenting a number of issues.

Course Design Guidelines v3.0 will address space and flow while maintaining philosophical principles as we seek to evolve dog agility into this trending and most challenging environment.
