8” winner: Sandy Scott’s Skylar

And the smallest competitor ...
The smallest competitor at Cynosport 2024 was Veterans Showcase 4” winner, Focus. At four pounds and 8½ inches tall, Focus the Papillon is usually the smallest competitor at any event. According to his owner, Brenda Kautz of Gilbert, Arizona, he makes up for his tiny size with a ton of heart. “At his first ever trial, he was dubbed ‘rocket dog’ by the judge after running completely off the end of the teeter and sailing through the air to a nicefour-point landing,” she said. “He started agility as a puppy and has loved it from that first moment!”

Now over 12 years old, Focus joined Brenda’s family through sheer luck. She was getting another Papillon from his breeder, Antje Kromberg Dunmire of Road’s End Papillons, when she saw Focus and fell in love. Antje allowed Brenda to take both boys home, where Focus became Brenda’s third dog to compete in agility.
“He has always been ready to try anything I ask of him and is the same wonderful little dog every time we go to the line,” Brenda said. “Outside the ring, he loves everyone and everything. I’ve been involved in agility for almost 15 years and am so grateful to have him as part of my journey!”
