Joy in the Journey: Sydney Ryan and Ego

Competitor/photographer focuses on capturing every moment with her dogs.

Sydney Ryan of Portland, Oregon, started photography in 2017 during her sophomore year of college. She was a global politics major with the goal of law school in mind, but everything changed when she got her Border Collie, Ego. (Read more about Sydney and Ego.)  

“I’ve been immersed in the dog world for as long as I can remember,” Sydney wrote on her website, Capture Your Ego Photography. “I grew up watching my mom compete in agility and learned early on just how incredible the human bond with dogs can be. Together, Ego and I have traveled all over the country.” After their trip to Cynosport^® Dog Agility World Games Presented by Purina^® Pro Plan^® and another show in Florida this fall, the duo will have been to each of the contiguous 48 states.

“The self-portrait (on this page) was taken in Great Sand Dunes National Park, located in Colorado,” Sydney said. “We stopped there during our road trip from Oregon to Missouri last fall while traveling to the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge. Ego ended up winning the Large Dog category, and we had a blast! I believe the dogs enjoy seeing new places as much as I do. At this point, everything I do is for them and with them!”
