TT FDSA Julie Daniels and Koolaid 500It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Julie Daniels’ passing.

A true pioneer in the sport of dog agility and a longtime friend to many in the community, Julie leaves behind an extraordinary legacy that shaped the sport from its earliest days.

Julie began her journey in dog agility during its formative years, competing in the Grand Prix of Dog Agility® in 1989. In May 1990, she earned the Agility Dog® title with her Rottweiler, Jessy, at USDAA's first titling event. From those early days, Julie’s passion and talent carried her far — both as a competitor and a respected authority in the sport.

Over the years, she became an award-winning author, an early USDAA judge and a sought-after instructor. Her White Mountain Agility training center in New Hampshire became a destination for students eager to learn from one of the best. Julie’s deep understanding of learning theory and behavior shaped her teaching, empowering handlers and strengthening the bond between dogs and their humans.

Julie also brought her insight and enthusiasm to television, serving as a color commentator for the USDAA/Animal Planet Grand Prix of Dog Agility telecasts from 1998 to 2000, and later as a voice of USDAA’s Cynosport® World Games livestreams.

USDAA President Kenneth Tatsch recalled, "Julie had an unsurpassed ability to communicate. Her focus on learning theory brought clarity and insight to her students. It was always a joy to work with Julie on our telecasts and streaming projects. She loved the sport, embraced new ideas and brought genuine joy to everything she did."

In recognition of her contributions, Julie was awarded the USDAA Pioneer of Dog Agility Award in 2007.

In the ring, Julie was a fierce competitor and champion. She was a two-time national champion in the United States and a two-time international gold medalist representing Team USA, including at the inaugural IFCS World Agility Championship in Moscow.

Julie Daniels touched countless lives throughout her remarkable career. Her impact on the sport, and on all who had the privilege of learning from her, is immeasurable. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
